Mark your calendars for the 14th Annual Summerseat Farm Annual Plant Sale!

Come join us for the 14th Annual Plant Sale at Summerseat Farm in Mechanicsville, on Saturday May 7, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine).

It’s a day full of fun, color, meeting up with friends and neighbors, gorgeous plants, crafts, kids fun, food, education, petting zoo, manor house tours, farm area tours.

Feel free to walk the grounds and take pictures. Summerseat is an historic 1678 farm and the house dates from 1884.

Plan on a full day of activities in an historic 1678 farm setting at this giant event featuring a marvelous assortment of vibrant annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, shrubs, trees, grasses, planted pots and dish gardens; garden supplies; hanging baskets; wood crafts; stained glass creations; the brand new “Bling for Spring,” a big selection of gently-used jewelry; Mother’s Day gifts; last year’s popular “Southwestern Corner,” and much more.

Shop till you drop! Get answers to your gardening questions. Cash/Check/Credit Card accepted. We’ll take your purchase to your car. Kids will have fun with crafts, planting seeds, and games at the Children’s Tent and the Petting Zoo. Plan to enjoy a delicious breakfast and lunch at the Courtyard Café.

Take a tranquil walk on the lovely grounds and enjoy the sights, a sparkling goldfish pond; the vivid color of the gardens; the old cemetery; a guided tour of the old manor house; and finally a guided visit at the barns to see our assortment of animals, including American buffalo.

Summerseat Farm, Inc. is an IRS designated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, run by volunteers only. It’s dedicated to protecting and preserving the estate with its natural resources and agricultural history and historic research; educational programs; and sharing its story.

Summerseat is supported solely by fundraisers, donations, and memberships. Location of the farm is 26655 Three Notch Rd, Mechanicsville, MD, southbound Rt. 235, just before the Rt. 247 intersection.

Pork Donut & The Franklin Square Band

Summerseat Farm is excited to announce our first concert of 2016! This is a fund raising event and all proceeds will go to help preserve the farm.

Drink coolers are welcome. There will be food and drinks for purchase as well.

No canopies or tents. Come out and join us for a day filled with great music, food and fun and help us preserve the farm!

Tickets Price Adults: $20 online, $25 at the gate

Kids under 12: $10 online, $12 at the gate

Pork Donut, a Southern Maryland band of local Law Enforcement Officers and The Frankiln Square Band, which is comprised of DC firefighters, (Franklin Square (firemen)+ Pork Donut (law enforcement) = Guns and Hoses) will be performing on stage from 3pm-7pm.

The choice when a buffalo calf’s mother died: the bottle or the bullet?

Dick Wildes

The buffalo cow was an older animal, but healthy as far as Dick Wildes knew. She’d given birth July 1 at Summerseat, the St. Mary’s County, Md., farm on which Dick keeps about a dozen bison.

She nursed her male calf for three days and then, on the Fourth of July, she lay down and didn’t get up.

“Something just took her away in a hurry,” Dick says. A heart attack maybe, or a stroke.
