In 2001, Summerseat Farm, Inc. was formed to preserve the rural character, history, and natural resources of the farm. Summerseat is a 127 acre working farm located in northern St. Mary's County, Maryland. It functions as a farm for breeding the only publicly accessible herd of American Buffalo in the region.

Summerseat's Manor House and gardens provide a beautiful backdrop for weddings, picnics, tours, business meetings, retreats and other special events. For more information, please contact 301.373.6607 or email info@summerseat.org.

Meetings: Summerseat meetings are open to the public. We meet monthly in the Summereat Manor House on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend!

Cost includes a commemorative wine glass and wine tasting

of selected wines from wineries of the Patuxent Wine Trail

Chef Loic of the Café Des Artistes will present hors d’oeuvres to pair with the wine.

Music will be provided by the David Norris band.

Summerseat Farm, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization operated entirely by volunteers. Your support will help us preserve over 120 acres of historic farmland dating back to the 18^th century.

Summerseat’s Gift

When visiting Summerseat, one will discover an unexpected surprise at the rear of the house as you roam toward the colorful gardens. Nestled in the back next to a peaceful gazebo, are the gardens of Summerseat. Planted by previous owners and very loosely based on English cottage gardens, there are six separate areas, including the gazebo.

Each season is appropriately represented by its own source of color and greenery. The trees and spring blooming shrubs start to put out buds with the promise of heavenly scents and sights when they bloom. The bulbs, such as daffodils, can’t wait to push themselves out into the sunlight. A slight warm spell at the end of winter will sometimes encourage them.

Animal Information

Summerseat has served as home to a countless number of farm animals to include horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and even llamas! Many of the current farm animals have come to Summerseat either by donation or as gifts. Birds of flight include geese, ducks, guinnea hens, doves, and a large variety of chickens.

Our wild residents (grazing the fenced in pastures) include American Buffalo and Barbados Sheep, giving Southern Maryland a variety of animals only seen at Summerseat!

At one time, Summerseat had considered serving as an Animal Sanctuary for the local community. However, due to funding constraints, Summerseat is no longer able to care for wounded or sick animals.
